During the project of the city of Klausur three monumental columns of light rose into the Frankfurt evening and night sky. In good weather, they can be seen from a distance of 30 kilometres. The columns of light, which the Frankfurt artist Levent Kunt designed, are projected between sunset and sunrise from three places: The Carmelite Monastery, the Dominican Monastery and the Capuchin Monastery Liebfrauen.
Light plays an important architectural and symbolic role in churches, explains Kunt. While in the past the landscape still contained conspicuous landmarks, they are hardly present in the cityscape today, especially in Frankfurt. Therefore Levent Kunt also sees his intervention as ‘a certain kind of marking’.
