Plakatwand, 2011

For the duration of PLAYING THE CITY 3, Frankfurt-based artist Levent Kunt sets up a white billboard in downtown Frankfurt. Kunt's wall is reminiscent of temporary posters before political elections or of building fences and offers the chance to show all kinds of art - even those which are usually not allowed in public space. White painted wooden panels arranged next to each other to form a 12 meter long surface and positioned freely in the room, that's how minimalistic the work by Levent Kunt, entitled "Plakatwand", stands in the way of passers-by on the Rathenauplatz.
The whitewashed surface can be understood as a monochrome as well as a primer. Thus, the "Plakatwand" works as an ongoing artwork. Kunt is concerned with creating a situation, not a finished state.
"My works," says the artist, "refer to social processes, but do not specifically intervene in them. The poster wall is most likely to be associated with the social turn, since passers-by may become activists who use this wall to write something on it, to stick something on it, and so on."
